New Information for the 2017/18 School Year

Supply Lists

The attached supply lists indicate the items that students should bring the first day of school. RCS will now provide students with most of their basic supplies. Students are expected to care for the supplies that are assigned to them and, should those supplies become lost or damaged, the parent will be contacted by the classroom teacher to provide replacement.

Bell Schedule for 2017/2018

We are making a change to our school day. The new bell schedule provides a more balanced day for our students. It includes 3 periods and a recess before lunch and 3 periods and a recess following lunch. Our noon hour remains the same but students will be provided with 30 minutes to eat and 30 minutes of playground time. In addition to the benefits for our students, our schedule will be better matched to other schools in the system allowing staff and students the ability to take advantage of division opportunities. Please see the attached schedule.                                                

After School Supervision for ALL students

All students that remain in the building after school will now be supervised. The attached information sheet will explain the system. Further details will be provided in August.

On School Property Parking Changes

In order to minimize traffic congestion and to provide safe traffic routes we are changing the system for parking. See the attached map and explanation.

Key points – All students wishing to park on the school property MUST apply for a parking spot. There is no charge for a student parking spot but there are a limited number available. If those parking spots are all assigned, additional student parking will need to be done off the property.

The students that currently have a parking tag will be given first choice of opting for a student parking space next year. Other students that may want a parking space must submit the attached google form by August 29th. All applications will be reviewed and students will be informed of their parking spot. If more applications are received than we have space for, a draw will be done to assign spaces. We ask that only students who drive their own vehicle on a daily basis apply for a space. If students bring their own vehicle occasionally they may be able to park in student parking IF there is a surplus of spaces or they will need to park on the street. They will need to contact the Student Administration office to know if there are available spots.

The attached map shows the new parking arrangements. Please note that this is a significant change. Be aware that parent, student and staff parking will be very different in the new school year.

Door Unlock Times

  • Front doors – 8 am to 4 pm
  • Back doors off the tarmac for elementary students – 8:30 to 9:00 to 3:30 to 3:45

During inclement weather a supervisor will be at the back doors by 8:20 to admit students who may have arrived a bit early. Supervision on the playground does not begin until 8:30.

Students arriving prior to 8:00 are able to buzz the Before and After School room intercom at the front elevator doors for access. Student in grades K-6 will then need to proceed directly to the Before School room.
